The slope of the top line of the red triangle is 3/8 or 15/40, while the slope of the blue triangle is 2/5 or 16/40. When the pieces are put together, the top line has a slight bend in it, so you don't really have a triangle at all. When the line bends up, there is no gap. When it bends down, there is more area under the line so a gap appears. Nice trick, though.
