Cops Shoot Man With Knife While Girlfriend Watches
The guy is stupid for doing this, but the police didn't have to kill the guy. Why shoot him in the chest if you can just shoot him once in the leg or something.

Sorry Pal but the police don't have the luxury of hindsight when something occurs. This perp committed copicide by running at the officer with the knife. Law enforcement is trained to shoot at center mass and shoot to kill. They don't live in the world of Dirty Harry who can shoot off a kneecap and if he misses, they can re-shoot the scene. This cop did EXACTLY what he should have and I'll be he still is bothered because he had to take a human life.

When an actor is within 21 feet, it takes less that 1 second to close that gap, so when he charged with a deadly weapon from that close......it was clearly a situation where the officers were in imminent fear of death or severe bodily injury. They were fully within their SOP to reply with deadly force. Shooting to injure someone is a BIG no-no. A Deady force response is just that, but intentionally maiming someone is illegal (criminally and civily) no matter who you are.

perhaps this guy had a mental illness, depression can make you do some silly things. Like running at the cops, but they were pointing guns at him, and there was more than 1 cop. that would stress anyone out. police are trained in dis-arming people which is what they should have done here. there are many people who have done far more serious things than holding a knive, and they dont get killed for it, they get comunity service and suspended sentance, when they should have been shot!!

You try and shoot someone in the leg when they suddenly sprint towards you with a big ass knife trying to kill you. Even if you were lucky enough to hit him in the leg...that wouldn't have stopped him and then you would get stabbed, die and then your wife and kids would live the rest of their lives without you just because some dumb ass who wanted to die anyway was lucky enough to run into a liberal thinker like you.

I dont know that shooting a man while he is down already with a shotgun or rifle is appropriate?? (the officer on the far right) I agree witrh using the deadly force just not shooting him after he is clearly down. That last shot was clearly not needed.

RE: KPFGPeiper If i was one of the Troopers, I`d have done the same thing, as, my life > criminals life. The question you have to ask yourself is: "would you try to disarm a dude with a knife?" If the guy didn`t run towards the officers - with or without intent to slash them up - the he`d probabally stil be alive. with regards to "shooting when he`s down" he was only shot 3 more times after the first shotgun round took him down - twice by the shotgun, once by the side-arm (as far as i could tell). And, if they`d double-tapped him, center mass, properly, he wouldn`t be moving, thus, not need to shoot again.... Take the shooting in London, UK a year or so back. the official outcome was that the ARU shot him in the head, at close range, 7 times. they`ve since enquired that the man wasn`t carying any bombs/guns/etc but at the time, they were on a "Shoot to Kill" policy closely regarding the recent bombings at tube stations - it`s what "could have happened". As someone`s said here, "It`s not Hollywood", you don`t get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th take to get it right.. it`s now or never.

Officers were justified to shoot him as the suspect was clearly given ample warning yet he chose to ignored the warning and charged towards the officer causing immedient danger to the officer's life.When a shot is fired, the aim is to stop him and thus shooting his body is the best way rather than to aim small areas.

It looks old enough to have been pre-tazer (and that kills too sometimes). Pepperspray didn't work. They didn't have any choice. Classic "suicide by cop". Sad.

Cop did exactly as trained. Met deadly menace with deadly force. Also saved the court docket from getting too crowded. End of story!

That was a split second decision that those Cops have to live with for the rest of their lives. They get a half of a second to decide something Grand Juries, The Media and The Public get to scrutinize for years to come. They did there job and they did it well. Tragic but justified.
